Beginner and Intermediate Vinyasa or "flowing" yoga strengthens and lengthens the body, building solidity in the core and inviting the muscles to awaken and release tension. This is the style which most people think of as "yoga" and it's a fantastic way to get reacquainted with your body! This is the style which most people associate with yoga.
Yin yoga is a passive yoga practice designed to help you sit more comfortably and for longer periods of time in meditation by stretching connective tissue, called fascia, around the joints. Poses are held for longer periods of time so you can access deeper layers of fascia. In our busy world, this helps to calm and center our minds as much as our bodies.
This style of yoga involves active relaxation, and brings total relaxation and surrender to the body. It focuses not on the quantity of poses, but on the quality, This is idea for those dealing with stress or recovering from illness or injury. This style is very low impact and is suitable for everyone.

Each 1-hour session begins with 15 minutes of learning a classic Hindu myth, followed by a 45-lminute Vinyasa which lets you embody the story of the myth in asanas (poses) and finishes with a mudra (meditative hand position) and a Sanskrit mantra, sung or chanted. This workshop combines chanting mantras, learning mudras, and doing two sessions of hatha yoga. A short lecture introduces participants to the magnificent Indian literary epic, RAMAYANA, the story of Prince Rama. Bring your Mala beads and your open heart! This event contains no yoga asanas, and is ideal for groups who want to learn about another culture's rituals in a different language. Participants can sit on meditation cushions, yoga mats, folded towls/blankets, chairs or wheelchairs. Using a harmonium and Tibetan singing bowls, the wallah (Kirtan instructor) will teach the pronunciation and performance of some of the best-loved meditation mantras, and will provide printed copies of words and translations.
Like the Ramayana, this workshop includes a full hour of vinyasa, an hour of mantras, a half of hour of mudras, and a half hour of learning the stories behind each of the ten avatars, or Dashavatara. This workshop lets you dive deeply into ancient Hindu culture and mythology.
Chandra, the Hindu god of the Moon, has a fascinating treasure trove of myths and stories; we cover several, along with Chandra mantras & mudras. Participants also learn a moon ritual which includes candle gazing, do a full Chandra japa mala chanting, and go through a 45-minute Chandra-based vinyasa.
SEASONS OF YOGA: AUTUMN, WINTER, SPRING and SUMMER. This is a 4-part series, each of which includes segments of vinyasa, mantra, mudra, and short discussions on seasonal crystals and Ayurveda considerations.
